Possible essay questions:
- According to the article, for what kind of research is it more
difficult to get funding from the National Institutes of Health, and
what two reasons are given for it?
- A panel at the University of Michigan initially denied approval
for a study that would include interviews of jailed members of a jihadi
group behind a bombing. Give at least one reason why the panel was
correct to do so, and at least one reason why the panel was wrong to do
so.
- The reader is given very little information about the last example,
in which "kids were to see a video in which a policeman misled a child
about something a fireman had done." But on the basis of the information
you have, do you agree with the IRB that "it is unethical to show cops in
a bad light"?
