The files in this directory are made available
to facilitate presentation of the illustrated
play The Discovery of the Calculus: The Battle
Between Wilhelm Leibniz and Isaac Newton,
written by H. W. Straley, Charlene B. Straley and
F. A. "Chip" Straley, of Woodberry Forest School,
Woodberry Forest, VA. To download one of them,
click on its name:
- calcbatl.doc
is the script of the play, in
MSWord 97 format. I have corrected a few typos
in the version that the Straleys provided,
but otherwise it is entirely their work. The
bibliography is in the form in which it was given
to me.
- calcbatl.txt
is the script in plain (ASCII) text format. Some
formatting (of course) has been lost.
- dcslides.doc
is an edited version of the script,
just listing the images which illustrate the
presentation in the order they are shown.
- dcjpgs.zip
is a WinZip file of all the images (they are
also listed below for individual download). It
is about 18 MB in size.
- calcbatl.ppt
is an MSPowerPoint 97 presentation
of the images, with two title "slides" at the
beginning. It is about 17 MB in size.
- calcbatl.zip
is a WinZip file of calcbatl.doc, dcslides.doc,
calcbatl.ppt, and the image files listed below.
It is about 35 MB in size.
- dc##_lll.jpg (where # represents a digit and
l represents a letter) are the pictures which
illustrate the presentation, in JPEG format
(obviously); the number gives the order in which
the image is shown, and the letters should suggest
what the image is. (One exception: The script
describes number 46 as "William and Mary", but the
image is clearly only of William.) I scanned them
from slides provided at cost by the Straleys and
did a very little retouching.
