Some simple games
As examples for computing expected value and standard error of
total winnings (sums) and average winnings (averages) in repeated
playing.
- Game 1: Roll one die. If you get a 5 or a 6, you win $2; otherwise you lose $1.
Play 30 times.
- Game 2: Roll two dice. If you get a 7 or 11, you win $7; otherwise you lose $3.
Play 10 times.
- Game 3: Toss three coins. If you get 3 heads, you win $9; otherwise you lose $2.
Play 40 times.
- Game 4: Play "splits" in roulette (2 winners out of 38 numbers), which pays 17 to 1,
betting $1 each time. Play 25 times.
