We are starting to skip around more: read 4.1-4.4 and 5.1-5.3.
Practice:
Exercise: 4.4.10.
To Hand In:
Exercise: 4.2.1.
Exercise: 4.4.4.
Exercise: 4.4.6 Note that (4.4.11) IS the solution.
You just need to manipulate it to show that it can be
written as desired by defining R and S appropriately.
Exercise: 4.4.8.
You must show that hint 1) is true. It just
gives you a direction and check on your answer part way through.
It seems to me better to ignore this hint.
You can start with the general solution before initial conditions
are imposed (4.4.11). You don't have to derive that--it involved
separation of variables and we did it in class.
Exercise: 4.4.9 (Hint: use integration by parts.)
Exercise: 5.3.3.
Exercise: 5.3.5. You can state (without deriving)
the results for this problem from earlier in the semester.
